Local Ugly

When there is a plan to meet Mabel Watson Payne and her parents downtown in San Francisco and take the train over to the East Bay, this is the pre-agreed spot at the Powell Street BART station where we meet. (It would do quite nicely as background for one of those cyborg-infested urban-dystopian thrillers like Blade Runner.) I arrive in a train from my neighborhood in the Mission and ascend to this exit gate opposite a set of elevator doors. The stroller and the baby and the attending adults enter this elevator up at street level and descend to the intermediate level pictured here where we make our joyful connection before descending another couple of levels to the dark and urine-scented train platform that will take us where we are going.
