Remnants of Bacon

The London kitchen of the painter Francis Bacon as he left it when he departed this world in 1992. Weathered reproductions of his own work tacked to the walls.

Bacon died in Madrid. He was past 80 and had a weak heart. Lifelong asthma also. His final week was spent sipping oxygen in a small hospital staffed by nuns. He refused to see anyone else. His own inner circle had long ago died off.

Scraps excavated from the studio floor.
